Remembering Brian Clarke: A Brilliant Artist and Beloved Friend

The world recently lost a radiant light in the form of Brian Clarke, a dear friend of our family and a man whose artistic legacy will shine for generations. As we mourn his passing, we find comfort in the many beautiful memories we shared and the vibrant pieces of art he left behind—a testament to a life lived with passion, creativity, and an infectious sense of humor.

We had the privilege of knowing Brian for many years, and throughout that time, he was a constant source of inspiration, laughter, and warmth. His visits were always full of stories, laughter, and exciting glimpses into his latest artistic ventures. Brian had a unique way of bringing joy into every room, and his enthusiasm for life and art was utterly contagious.

One of the most special gifts he gave us were the stained glass windows he created for our home. These were not just decorations—they were soulful expressions of beauty and light that transformed our space and spirits. Among his many collaborations, one particularly close to our hearts was with Linda, who worked alongside Brian to turn her photographs into breathtaking stained glass artworks. Their synergy was magical, blending photography and glass with a grace that only true artists can achieve.

Brian’s reputation in the world of contemporary art and architecture is legendary. His work graces some of the most renowned public spaces across the globe. He was commissioned to design monumental stained glass installations for the Concordia at Bahrain Airport and collaborated with the famed architect Sir Norman Foster on the stained glass for Stansted Airport in London. His stunning work also adorns the Queen Victoria Street Arcade in Leeds, among many others. Each piece is a monument to his vision, craftsmanship, and his deep understanding of light and space.

Our relationship with Brian began in the 1970s through the art dealer Robert Fraser, a connection that blossomed into a lasting friendship. Over the decades, we shared countless wonderful moments—full of laughter, artistic debate, and heartfelt connection. Brian was never just a friend; he was family.

While the pain of his loss is immense, we are comforted by the thought that his legacy will endure. Every window he created, every collaboration he pursued, and every friendship he nurtured are reflections of a man who lived fully and generously. We will miss him terribly, but we are blessed with the gift of his memory and his art—reminders of the light he brought into our lives.

Rest in peace, Brian. You will always be loved, remembered, and admired.
