The Accident

  • The brothers were driving a Lamborghini Huracán on Spain’s A‑52 motorway near Cernadilla, Zamora.
  • While overtaking, the car suffered a tyre blowout, veered off the road, flipped, and burst into flames, killing both instantly

  • Jota had recently undergone minor lung surgery in late June and had been advised not to fly. He and André were en route from Porto, via Santander ferry, heading to England ahead of Liverpool’s preseason.

  • Diogo Jota, a father of three, had just celebrated his wedding to childhood sweetheart Rute Cardoso on June 22, 2025 .
  • He joined Liverpool in 2020 (from Wolves), scoring 65 goals in 182 appearances, and was key in the club’s 2024–25 Premier League triumph, along with FA Cup and EFL Cup wins.
  • He earned 49 caps for Portugal and won two UEFA Nations League titles (2019, 2025).
  • His brother André Silva was also a footballer, previously with Penafiel in Portugal’s second tier .
