Ringo Starr has revealed that he believes he hasn’t aged a day past 24 when he looks in the mirror.
In an interview with New York Times on July 2nd, the Beatles drummer reflected on his upcoming birthday, as he turns 85 on July 7th. “It blows me away,” he commented. “I look in the mirror and I’m 24. I never got older than 24.”
For the interview, the musician wore camo-print pants and a necklace adorned with a peace sign. His choice of outfit and previous comment prompted the interviewer to ask how Starr maintains his vitality. “Well, I love what I’m doing,” he replied.
He reflected on how he has maintained this joy throughout his lengthy career. “When I first started… my mother would come to the gigs. She would always say, ‘You know, son, I always feel you’re at your happiest when you’re playing your drums.’ So she noticed. And I do. I love to hit those buggers.”
He also gestured to his spontaneity as a great enabler of vitality. “I live in the now. I didn’t plan any of it. I love that life I’m allowed to live.”
The Beatles legend made similar headlines earlier this year after admitting that he had never eaten a pizza despite appearing as a spokesperson for Pizza Hut back in the 1990s. He also said that he had never eaten curry before.
Saltburn actor Barry Keoghan will play Ringo Starr in Sam Mendes’ upcoming biopics on The Beatles. He is joined in Beatles BootCamp by Paul Mescal, who is playing Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn, who is portraying George Harrison, and Harris Dickinson, who has been cast to play John Lennon. All four movies are scheduled to be released simultaneously in April 2028.
In a three-star review of his latest album, Far Out wrote, “Look Up is technically sound, but the focal point fails to deliver on the key aspects that help us lean towards country music. We end up with a shell of a record, missing out on humility and depth. It’s not a terrible album to listen to, but there are much better out there”
