Lord Of The Rings director Peter Jackson has revealed that he is currently working on three different screenplays and has hinted at more The Beatles work in the future.
Jackson’s last cinema release was the 2014 movie The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies. He has since dabbled in documentaries for TV, such as BBC’s They Shall Never Grow Old, and the hugely renowned music documentary The Beatles – Get Back for Disney +.
Jackson recently spoke to Screen Rant to promote his new collaboration with Biosciences, who are currently attempting to bring the Giant Moa bird back from extinction. Due to the nature of the conversation seeming so far from his previous work, he was asked whether he’d finally retired.
The director resisted that idea, stating, “No, no. I’m certainly not retire. We are currently working on three different screenplays. I’m at the moment writing three different scripts. We are producing and have been writing The Hunt for Gollum, which Andy Serkis is going to direct next year. I’ve enjoyed working on documentaries, whether they show I’ve grown old or not, and obviously the Get Back The Beatles project. I’ve enjoyed doing various things with The Beatles which is great, and that’ll probably carry on”.
In addition to Get Back, Jackson also used the same technology to help The Beatles release their chart-topping single, ‘Now and Then’, in 2023.
Writing of the Get Back project, Far Out noted originally that, “Get Back plays off like a great fictional soap opera, even though the events are happening in real life. There are different arcs, different narratives, and different conflicts that drive the plot: get an album, a TV show, and a live performance written and recorded in one month.”
It continued: “The structure gives each of The Beatles a different character to play. Paul McCartney becomes the no-nonsense leader, John Lennon becomes the aloof dissenter, George Harrison becomes the put upon younger brother searching for his own voice, and Ringo Starr becomes the calm presence trying to hold it all together.”
The Lord Of The Rings: The Hunt For Gollum was provisionally announced in 2023, and is now confirmed for a 2027 release date.
