Former Beatles drummer Ringo Starr has revealed that he had issues with the first script he saw for the new Beatles biopic which focuses on his story.
In a new interview with New York Times, Starr opened up about his involvement in the upcoming biopics; each member will receive their own movie, but they will all be released in April 2028.
Starr flew to London in April to meet Sam Mendes, the filmmaker taking on the humungous project. The pair spent two days going over the script of Starr’s film, line by line. Starr reportedly gave Mendes extensive notes to make his depiction as true as possible.
Starr had to give a notable amount of direction on the scenes which specifically included his family and his first wife, Maureen Starkey Tigrett. Starr commented, “He had a writer — very good writer, great reputation, and he wrote it great, but it had nothing to do with Maureen and I. That’s not how we were. I’d say, ‘We would never do that.’”
However, after the guidance he was able to give, Starr is now pleased with the script and depiction. Yet, he still has logistical hold-ups, as the New York Times reports that he is “still not sure how Mendes is going to shoot four films at once.” Nonetheless, Star concluded, “But he’ll do what he’s doing, and I’ll send him peace and love.”
Saltburn actor Barry Keoghan will play Ringo Starr. It is a fact that Starr accidentally leaked after meeting the actor for the first time. Keoghan has since publicly noted the pressure he feels to get the job right, hailing Starr an “icon.”
The Beatles BootCamp consists of Paul Mescal, who plays Paul McCartney; Joseph Quinn, who portrays George Harrison; and Harris Dickinson, who has been cast to play John Lennon. All four movies are scheduled to be released simultaneously in April 2028.
In the same interview, the Beatles drummer reflected on his upcoming birthday, turning 85 on July 7th. “It blows me away,” he commented. “I look in the mirror and I’m 24. I never got older than 24.”
