As concerns grow for the possibility of a nuclear war, you might be inclined to wonder what exactly happens if a nuclear bomb goes off near you.
There are currently more conflicts world wide than any point since WW2, and even Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed genuine concern about the potential for World War Three breaking out.
One terrifying simulation has revealed what could happen to you if you’re caught up in the explosion zone of a nuclear bomb. It comes after a declassified map showed which U.S. cities would be hit first in the event of a nuclear war.

The doomy video clip was created by ‘atomic marvel’, and details the impact of an apocalyptic explosion in five ‘zones’, each located at a different distance from the center of the blast zone.
What’s particularly worrying is that, according to the short film, even those at the furthest reaches of about two miles away are not safe from harm.
Do be aware that the details in this article may be upsetting for some, as they get quite graphic.
Keeping in mind that for the purposes of the animation, the outer range of the blast radius is between 1.27km (0.8miles) and 3.27km (2miles), those in zone one face the bleak risks of becoming blind. This is because retinas are likely to burn away from the intense brightness of the nuclear flash.
After this mega flash, a burst of radiation would follow, causing 2nd degree burns – demonstrated with a mannequin figure in the animation.
Finally, even if you managed to save yourself so far, the immense sound wave of the explosion has the potential to make those within its range temporarily or permanently deaf. However, as unpleasant as these affects sound, those in zone one may be considered the lucky ones.
If you’re in the unfortunate position of being in zone two-within 600m (2,000ft) and 1.27km (0.8miles) – the shockwave will be strong enough to instantly knock you off your feet.
